Dan - who started out as a modder for Morrowind, Skyrim, and Fallout New Vegas - has close to two decades of experience in the video game industry under his belt and his talk on Ten Principles for Good Level Design at the Game Developer's Conference 2013 is cu.

Episodes One and Two REDUX & Survival Mode Update. WINTERMUTE REDUX. We’ve just released the completely overhauled versions of Episodes One and Two. This thread is for discussion related to multiplayer in The Long Dark. It has been left unlocked to give players a place to share and discuss ideas, as well as see Hinterland's comments about the topic. Future threads related to multiplayer/co-op/pvp will be merged here. The Long Dark was designed from the beginning to be a single-player experience and we don't have any plans to add multiplayer.

We're all here to have fun!4. While Let's Plays are allowed on the sub for the time being, please limit to posting no more than one per day. For best results and engagement practices within the sub, please utilize the weekly playthrough thread you'll find stickied every Thursday.5. Low effort memes/reaction gifs are banned. Examples of low effort memes would be:.Typical 'my reaction when' images (or videos, or gifs).Drake/expanding brain/change my mind templates etcReally, if you just take a meme template that's going around and apply a The Long Dark twist to it, it will probably be deleted, as these completely take over subreddits when allowed to do so. Exceptions may exist when a meme is completely adapted to TLD content and high effort. In short, low effort template memes ('shitposts') will be removed immediately.

Repeat offenders may get banned.Posts that violate any of these rules will be removed without warning.Don’t want to see any memes at all?Don't have Reddit Enhancement Suite? Hey, it's me the new mod. I've stopped chasing my dog May long enough to tell you about the following change to the sub's rules.Bottom line up front is this; mods are here and mods are good. Darkest dungeon skin mods.

I like mods, you like mods and we all like mods. Mods to our favorite game can now be posted here without repercussions, provided they follow the following rules. We will allow modders to share their modified games on The Long Dark subreddit as long as the following conditions are met:No modded games can be reported to Hinterland for technical problems under any circumstances. Failure to abide by this rule will result in the poster reporting of said mod file being banned permanently from The Long Dark subreddit. If you use mods, don't upload modded files to the hinterland official forums. Yeah, I know it's largely unenforceable but really, don't do this.

It's just hurting the studios ability to fix bugs. Each mod must clearly state that the game is modded on any screenshots produced while a player is using the modded game. Any modded file that doesn’t include this ability cannot be shared on this subreddit. Each mod must also clearly mark the debug log as having been altered. Any modded file that doesn’t include this cannot be shared on this subreddit.Modded files that are shared with this community that do not adhere to rules two and three will be removed by the moderators of this community. These rules are now in effect because, and I hope each of you agree, we don't want to overwhelm Hinterland with bug reports that are caused by modded game files. There has to be a give and take here.

At least I feel there does. I've shared these ideas with one of the most prominent modders in this community and he agreed that the rules are fair (but because of military obligations he might be unable to comment right now).Anyway I welcome your feedback, I hope we can go forward and enjoy this awesome game that we all love.I'd type more but I have to find May, she just chased after a rabbit. Ah sorry, I must have overlooked the pin. However my comment towards numbering the mod rules into the community info still stands, looking at the info right now there is one sentence regarding mods within rule 1. This sentence is old and regards mods as exploitation and not to be mentioned on the sub at all. Oliveritaly states the mod rules and specifically numbers some of them in this text: '.rules two and three.'

On his post above. But they are not numbered themselves yet in the community info(they're not in it at all as of yet) or his post. I only suggested clarifying things to make them easier to understand and consistent, especially for later reference. Just simple nitpicks of mine that aren't urgent. Infact even if there's both a sticky and updated community info I'm sure some people will ignore it either way shrugsYes, it would be quite a task to keep track of all mods and summarize them, definitely not ideal. Nexus mods is a great place for uploading them, is perfectly fine and will grow, but it's not mentioned either on the community info which adds to my main point about these rules now being in effect but all this info is not there yet. Yeah you're not wrong there are very few mods right now, there's basically just Relentless Night and some tools, which is also why I stated this can all happen in due time later down the track.

My whole comment was suggestions to possibly get to that are just my own nitpicks, there's no hurry right now.About not feeling right using mods now(again, not that there's many available): That's your personal opinion and choice. A large amount and certainly not a minority of mods for games start up during development, see Dwarf Fortress(poor example since it'll always be in development), Rimworld, Prison Architect and a large number of other games. This post by Oliveritaly is so mods don't take up developer's time with bug reports, discussion etc. So it's not like a majority of people will do so, hopefully. Rule 1 is poorly worded and somewhat redundant after reading 2&3. I would recommend:. Any technical issues with a modded version of The Long Dark should be reported to the mod creator and not to Hinterland's official bug report forum.I would just take the 'permanent ban' threat out because like you already said it is A) largely unenforceable and B) they should be banned from the official forums(which is not your responsibility) for doing this which makes banning them from here a moot point.

Hey all, apologies for not checking back sooner. I had a busy day and wasn't able to read what the communities' reaction to the updated rules until a few moments ago.I'm glad to see it was mostly positive - and yes I'll work on all of the things you've mentioned.Rule one stinks, I agree. I'll change it. I just want it PAINFULLY clear that if you upload a bug report to hinterland from a game that you've used mods on it's a REALLY BAD thing.I'd love to hear more of your feedback on how that can be done.I half expected to unmod me, send me hurtful messages and to take me off his Christmas card list but he stood by me. Add another beer, coffee or drink of your choice to the list of drinks I already owe you sir. It's not perfect by any means, I know that. But it's a start.I'm about three-beers deep so I won't be following up with any of the specific posts until tomorrow (seriously you all have some awesome suggestions there) but I will be reading them.I need to reach out to the moderators of The Long Dark modding sub to see if we can't all get on the same page. That just seems like the smart thing to do.

You misunderstand. If someone mods their game and encounters a glitch (such an unkillable wolves after modding wolf behaviour)Then reports this glitch to Hinterland. Hinterland spends time and effort trying to reproduce the glitch on their unmodded versions and waste time because it's not their problem to deal with.Hope this explanation helps clear up the idea. Edit: Read this part 'These rules are now in effect because, and I hope each of you agree, we don't want to overwhelm Hinterland with bug reports that are caused by modded game files.' Hinterland clearly doesn't have time to deal with mods and help mod developers bug find/fix. I don't think I misunderstand. But maybe you can explain what you think I misunderstood instead of just repeating what was said in the OP and then we might be getting somewhere.Anyway, if you think threatening permanent bans for 'asking the wrong question' (because that's what this really is) then go ahead. If Hinterland actually spent their time chasing a bug before asking 'Can you reproduce this on an unmodded version?'

That would be incredibly stupid. Well, this happened. I'm not sure what to make of this entirely, but yay.I guess. I missed out on the drama mostly (was around for it, but stayed out of it because I don't have a dog in the fight), but I am glad to see that this is no longer going to be an issue for those that want to use mods. Personally, I'm going to wait until after the game has launched to use them, and even then not until the first season is complete and I've played through it.I've spent some money on merchandise for this game on top of supporting the game and telling everyone I know about it. I was sad to see that things here had escalated to where the devs and players alike felt this was not a safe place, but.Reddit! Maybe now some real healing can begin, and the game can take center stage heading into the launch as it should be.

I'm looking forward to August 1, and diving into the story we've been waiting all this time for.
